Dr. Terry Ryan Kane 

Dr. Kane earned a Master of Science degree in Ecology from the University of Illinois, Chicago and took beekeeping while attending veterinary school at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. After decades of clinical practice, she pivoted to policy as an AAAS science advisor in the U.S. Senate working on the Farm Bill, emerging diseases, and antibiotic resistance. Following the FDA ruling on antibiotic stewardship in livestock animals, she has devoted her time to teaching veterinarians/students about honey bees and pollinator ecology. She is currently serving on the Executive Board of The Honey Bee Veterinary Consortium, an organization of honey bee veterinarians and students. She is co-editor of a textbook, Honey Bee Medicine for the Veterinary Practitioner(Wiley Press, 2021). She is an instrument rated private pilot and credits the bees with her learning to fly!
