2008 Michigan State Fair Instructions

To SEMBA State Fair Volunteers:

Entering the Fair
You will enter the Fair at Gate "D" off 8 Mile Rd. (It was called Lot "C" in years past, same lot.)
Hang the parking pass on your rear view mirror.

Each person must have a fair pass. One parking pass is required per car. PLEASE pick up passes from Bill's mailbox and return them after your time at the Fair, so other people can get a pass. The Semba mailbox with the passes is on Bill's GATE, NOT on the front porch.

If there is any discrepancy, please call Bill or Ann.

The Bee Booth is in the West Mall, Building 2. There are no chairs in the booth. Please bring a folding chair for yourself.

If you are not able to keep your date and time, please call:
Ann Kerwin at 313-861-5760 or Bill Sirr at 248-544-8619.

Care of the Observation Hive
The observation hive must NEVER be left unattended up on the table. There is a danger that someone might tip it over and cause a serious problem. If you must leave the booth, place the hive on the floor out of the way. On the table the hive should be clamped to the table for safety.

Occasionally, if it becomes hot, the bees may begin to run frantically across the comb. They may be cooled down by placing an ice cube on one of the vent holes on the top. This will also provide needed moisture. The observation hive will be exchanged every couple of days with a second observation hive.

Care of Entries
Please, no handling of displayed entries. Prize ribbons must be left in place, even at night.

Literature for Distribution - Additional Instructions
Brochures and recipes are on the table for handouts. Extra copies will be in boxes under the table. Any additional instructions will be with the extra brochures. There will be a note pad for listing persons who would like more information or tell them about our website, www.sembabees.org.

Bee Stamps
There two hand stamps for putting a "bee" on children's hands. The stamp pad is blue ink which seems to work well on most skin colors. Please store them under the table when you close up.
